After 16 Years, Manhattan Beach Skate Park Opens
The park is 5,000 square feet with several transitions areas for skaters to slide down rails and grind ledges.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA -- After 16 year, the new Manhattan Beach skate park finally opened this weekend.
The skate park at Marine Avenue Park opened to much fanfare Saturday.
“It’s really a culmination all of the hard work that the community has put into developing this project. There’s literally been hundreds, if not thousands of people within the community that have shared their input,” Mark Leyman, director of parks and recreation in Manhattan Beach, told the Daily Breeze. “I think what is exciting is to see the actual design now. How creative it is, how innovative it is and how it really ties in with the community.”

The park is the city's legal spot for skaters to perfect their skills. Hundreds of skaters and their families attended the grand opening.
Talks of building a skate park started 16 years ago but gained traction two years ago when pro skateboarder Kanten Russell took on the cause.
