Allison Hales Excited To Be Part Of Bruce's Beach Task Force

The Manhattan Beach resident, chosen first, is a woman of color who lives near Bruce's Beach and wants to contribute to its lasting legacy.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The City of Manhattan Beach Bruce's Beach Task Force will hold its second meeting tonight [Monday, Nov. 9] from 6-7 p.m. The public meeting can be seen online via Zoom.

Manhattan Beach resident Allison Hales was the first person selected to the task force by City Council during a nomination and voting process at a council meeting. Said Hales of her appointment, "It's honestly quite humbling being appointed as the first seat on the task force and I am excited to get to work. During the last five months with all the racial unrest in this country, I have felt compelled to serve the community in ways that are new to me. I think it's an important time to give back and support our community and youth, thus giving them a better future."

Hales, a local real estate agent, brings a varied background and wealth of experience. "Bruce's Beach is and has been my home for a little over two years and it's a wonderful place," she told Manhattan Beach Patch shortly after her appointment. "Having learnt about its history, and being the only person of color currently living on the park, I feel it's my duty to participate in the conversation and actualization of what becomes of it by honoring the Bruce family and its legacy in its own right and for generations to come to know the full history.

"I take pride in having the opportunity to contribute," she said, "and have a few ideas I would like the team to consider, as I'm sure my fellow task members do. I hope we can bring some resolution to what is needed here in our town and that everyone is proud of. I would love to bring some joy and celebration of Black history to honor the Bruce's legacy."

The meeting will be online and can be accessed via the internet or by phone. Internet access is as follows:
