'Born on the Fourth of July' Author to Give Reading of His New Book in Manhattan Beach
Ron Kovic, whose autobiography was adapted into an Academy Award-nominated film, will read selections from his new book, 'Hurricane Street.'
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — South Bay resident Ron Kovic, whose autobiography was turned into an Academy Award-winning film with the same name, "Born on the Fourth of July," will be giving a reading of his new book at a Manhattan Beach bookstore Thursday.
Kovic, who was shot and paralyzed on the battlefields in Vietnam, will be reading selections from his new book, "Hurricane Street," which is about the 1974 sit-in and hunger strike in the office of then-U.S. Sen. Alan Cranston.
Kovic, who lives in Redondo Beach, and other veterans was protesting for the 17 days about the conditions of the VA hospitals that were treating troops returning from Vietnam in the waning years of the war. This book was something the anti-war activist wanted to write for some time.

The reading will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pages bookstore located at 904 Manhattan Ave. in Manhattan Beach.
