CITY OF MANHATTAN BEACH ANNOUNCES MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION FOR ITS EMPLOYEES
CITY OF MANHATTAN BEACH ANNOUNCES MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION FOR ITS EMPLOYEES
Manhattan Beach, CA (September 23, 2021) - After careful consideration, at its meeting on September 21, 2021, the City Council voted to require all City employees to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 by December 1, 2021. This vote comes after August 23, 2021, when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provided full approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
“The health and safety of residents, employees, and the community is a top priority for the City,” said Mayor Hildy Stern. “This new requirement demonstrates our commitment to reducing the risk of COVID-19 community transmission. The data shows that getting vaccinated is the best way to protect everyone from COVID-19 and make it possible to recover from this devastating pandemic.”
Beginning December 1, 2021, all City employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19, or request an exemption for a qualified medical condition or based on a sincerely held religious belief. The City’s Human Resources Department will be working in the coming weeks to develop a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, and will be meeting with labor associations to negotiate the impacts of the policy decision.
From the onset of the pandemic, the City of Manhattan Beach has made employee and public safety a priority. In terms of vaccinations, 84 percent of active City employees have submitted verification that they are fully vaccinated. Additionally, 85 percent of Manhattan Beach residents over the age of 12 have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
