Clean-up Begins At Large Homeless Encampment In The South Bay: Report
The encampment has generated "significant complaints" over the last year, according to authorities.
GARDENA, CA — Clean-up efforts began Wednesday at a large homeless encampment in the South Bay that's generated "significant complaints" over the last year, according to a report by KTLA.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homeless Outreach Services Team is leading the efforts to remove trash, debris and RVs obstructing the sidewalks and roads near 14434 San Pedro St. in Gardena, according to the report.
Although residents of the homeless encampment are being forced to leave the encampment area, they're also being offered housing and support services by social workers, according to the report.

“Businesses and community members have not only gone to our department, but [2nd District Supervisor Holly] Mitchell’s office, who we’ve been working hand-in-hand with,” L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna told KTLA 5. “When we are dealing with challenges like this, which is a very difficult challenge, our deputies come in and ask [if people need] services first [because] we want to make sure everybody is safe.”
