The crash occurred around 7:05 a.m. Friday in the intersection of Carson Street and Cabrillo Avenue, police said.

TORRANCE, CA — The driver of a Kia sedan that was reported carjacked in Hollywood was critically injured Friday when she crashed into a pickup truck in a Torrance intersection.

The crash occurred around 7:05 a.m. Friday in the intersection of Carson Street and Cabrillo Avenue, Torrance police Lt. C. Farley told City News Service.

Officers took note of the gray sedan when it showed up on a license plate-reading device as carjacked from Hollywood Thursday, Farley said. The officers did not initiate a pursuit but the driver of the sedan "took off."

The driver was on Cabrillo Avenue when she crashed into a Ford F-350 dual-rear wheel pickup on Carson Street, Farley said. Officers were about a quarter-mile away when they witnessed the crash.
The suspect was taken by ambulance to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition, he said.

Two passengers in the pickup were taken to hospitals by ambulance for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening, Farley said.

An investigation was underway to determine whether the suspect ran a red light before the crash, he said.

Investigators initially shut down all southbound lanes of Cabrillo and westbound lanes of Carson, but at 9 a.m., shut down all lanes of both streets in that intersection.
