DUI/Driver License Checkpoint Coming Up In Manhattan Beach

"The intent of the checkpoint is to encourage sober designated drivers," Manhattan Beach police said.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The Manhattan Beach Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on Friday, August 9, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. The checkpoint will be conducted in partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety, who is providing funding for the checkpoint along with the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

"The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety, increase the awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deter impaired driving and unlicensed driving," MBPD said. "The intent of the checkpoint is to encourage sober designated drivers. By publicizing these educational and enforcement efforts, the Manhattan Beach Police Department believes that drinking and driving and driving will be reduced."

MBPD has a "Zero Tolerance" approach to enforcement. If drivers are over the legal limit, they will be arrested, police said. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 9-1-1 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
