El Camino College Hosts Metal Arts Society of Southern California’s Annual Demo Day

The annual Demo Day will be held October 16.

El Camino College will host the Metal Arts Society of Southern California’s annual Demo Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 16 in ARTN 133, the ECC Jewelry Studio.

Participants will be able to attend five different demonstration sessions on various topics, with time to meet with colleagues and enjoy an opportunity drawing featuring a variety of metals, stones, tools and gift certificates donated by vendors. ECC art professor Irene Mori helped organize this regional event.

Presentations throughout the day include:

Lighting for Jewelry Photography: Presenter John Rose will show how taking great photos of jewelry starts with great lighting.

Uses of Concrete for Metalwork: Betsy Manheimer will demonstrate how to mix, pour, color, shape and embellish concrete then incorporate it into metal work to create unusual and unique pieces.

Texture Plates for Roller Printing: Texture can add a layer of visual interest – Deb Jemmott will explain how to make reusable texture plates.

Faux Bone Techniques: Michelle Ross will reveal ways to use faux bone – mark making, coloring, shaping and combining with metal in various ways.

Shameless Self Promotion: How can one successfully market his or herself as artists, educators, or technicians? Discipline and practice. Angelina Smith will explain how.
