El Camino College Secures Nearly $1 Million for Job Training
The grant will be used to train more than 1,100 workers statewide, serving multiple employers.

From El Camino College: El Camino College’s Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT) recently secured $949,480 in employment training funds for manufacturing workforce programs. The grant will be used to train more than 1,100 workers statewide, serving multiple employers.
The El Camino College CACT is one of six Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies in California that offer college-approved curriculum and workforce training. An initiative of the California Community College’s Economic and Workforce Development program, the Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies are dedicated to serving California’s advanced technology companies with innovative business solutions.
“Our focus has always been to bring innovative processes and new technology to the workforce through customized training, workshops, and technical assistance to employers,” said Eldon Davidson, director of ECC’s Center for Customized Training. “Once again, we are pleased to partner with the Employment Training Panel (ETP), which has proven to be a valuable partner in the support and success of our workforce training programs.”

The El Camino College CACT grant is one of 28 contracts worth more than $13.4 million in job training funds recently approved by the state’s Employment Training Panel.
“El Camino College is very appreciative of this funding from the State of California that will address the current and future workforce needs of the manufacturing industry,” said El Camino College President Dena P. Maloney.

Contracts were awarded to renewable fuel and vehicle technology job training funds. Training proposals were comprised of both single and multiple employer contracts from various industry sectors throughout the state.
“These funds will help train workers in clean technologies that can help meet the state’s ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets,” said Stewart Knox, the Employment Training Panel’s executive director.
The ETP is a business and labor supported state agency that assists employers in strengthening their competitive edge in the economy by providing funds to partially offset the costs of necessary job skills training. California’s ETP is a performance-based program, providing funds for trainees who successfully complete training and are retained in good-paying jobs at or above a required wage base, for at least 90 days.
