MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — After 35 years of working in service of Manhattan Becah, City Manager Bruce Moe announced his retirement at this week's City Council meeting.

Moe initially started working with Manhattan Beach in 1989 as the General Services Supervisor and was appointed as City Manager in 2018.

"I have been incredibly blessed to serve Manhattan Beach for many years and am beyond grateful for the opportunities I have had with the city,” said City Manager Moe. “It has been my honor to work with so many wonderful people who care a great deal about Manhattan Beach.”

As City Manager, Moe has helped Manhattan Beach through periods of significant change, including the COVID-19 pandemic, rebuilding Fire Station #2 and the replacement of the Peck Reservoir.

The City Council will be discussing possible successors at future close session meetings, the city said. Until a successor is found, Moe said he will stay on the job to ensure a smooth transition.

“The retirement of Bruce Moe marks the end of an era for our city,” said Mayor Joe Franklin. “For more than three decades, his calm and strong leadership has made him a true asset to our City. The City Council and our entire Manhattan Beach community extend our deepest gratitude to Bruce for his decades of excellent public service. He is the embodiment of the values of service and dedication which have left an indelible mark on our City’s landscape. We are so grateful to him for investing his time, career, and heart in Manhattan Beach.”
