High School Student Fatally Struck By Suspected Drunk Driver: Police

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A motorist was arrested for suspicion of DUI and murder for allegedly striking and killing a high school student in Manhattan Beach early Sunday.

Officers dispatched about 12:50 a.m. Sunday to the 100 block of South Sepulveda Boulevard located a victim lying in the street next to a vehicle, according to Officer Chasen Gaunt of the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

Paramedics rushed the boy to a hospital, where he died, Gaunt said.

He was identified as 18-year-old Braun Levi, a student one month away from his high school graduation, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"Levi ... was a team captain and four-year varsity starter for Loyola Tennis and cemented himself as one of the most accomplished student- athletes in program history, having just won a fourth consecutive league championship on April 29th," the school posted to social media.

A prayer vigil in memory of Levi, a Loyola High School grad who was set to attend the University of Virginia in the fall, was organized by the school on Sunday, according to the media report.
