Janice Hahn Condemns Attack on Los Angeles County Ballot Drop Box

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A Los Angeles County Ballot Drop Box was set on fire Sunday recently in Baldwin Park at the library. The incident is being investigated as arson.

"This attack on a county ballot drop box was reprehensible," said and LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn. "Burning ballots is not just vandalism, it is an attack on our democracy and on our residents’ right to vote. Whoever did this must be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Due to the incident, Hahn has asked that the Registrar Recorder make sure empty ballot boxes are "emptied nightly from now until Election Day."

County staff last picked up ballots at the affected drop box location on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10:10 a.m., according to a County news release. The Registrar’s Office encourages those who utilized this drop box location after 10:10 a.m. this past Saturday to call (562) 503-2445 or email vbmdropoff@rrcc.lacounty.gov for assistance. The Registrar is immediately increasing the frequency of ballot pickup at all other boxes.

“The Los Angeles County Registrar will continue to do everything possible to ensure the integrity of local elections,” said Registrar Logan. “Tampering with vote by mail drop boxes and ballots is serious criminal offense and we will vigorously seek the prosecution of individuals who engage in such behavior.”

All LA County voters can check the status of their ballot by visiting LAVote.net, and can utilize U.S. Mail or other drop box locations throughout the County to turn in their ballot.
