LAX Increases Security Presence Following Fatal Shooting at Fort Lauderdale Airport

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Los Angeles Airport Police department is "deploying additional resources" at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday following the fatal shooting at an airport in Florida.
Multiple people were killed by a lone gunman at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, international airport, Broward County Sheriff's Office said. The suspect is in custody, according to a tweet from the sheriff's office.

The shooting happened just a little before 1 p.m. local time, according to the sheriff's office. At least six people were shot, according to broadcast reports in Miami.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport officials announced that "all services are temporarily suspended at the airport."

Former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer was in the airport when the shooting happened and tweeted that "everyone is running."

At LAX, Airport Police said it has increased police presence in the Central Terminal area as well as adding more resources to other terminals.
"Airport Police are monitoring the situation in Florida closely," the agency tweeted.
Five scheduled flights that had not yet departed from Fort Lauderdale to LAX were listed as delayed on the LAX flight status website. Fort Lauderdale- bound flights from LAX were all still listed as being "on time," but passengers were being advised to check with airlines about flight status.
