Man Found Along 405 Freeway Had Been Shot To Death: CHP

Authorities said they found the man's body at a homeless encampment along the freeway embankment.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A man who was found dead at a homeless encampment in Lawndale Tuesday morning had been shot several times, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol said they responded to the encampment near the San Diego (405) Freeway, just north of Manhattan Beach Boulevard, at around 3:53 a.m. Tuesday.

There, officers found the man who had been shot multiple times, according to the CHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as a man in his 50s.

CHP's Southern Division Major Crimes Unit detectives responded to the scene to investigate and are working on collecting evidence, according to authorities.

The CHP asks that anyone who may have information on the fatal shooting contact detectives at 323-644-9550 or the department's communications center at 323-259-3200.
