Manhattan Beach Monday: Inclusion, Back To School, Meetings

Listen to "Powell to the People" today from 1-2 p.m. to hear about Manhattan Beach Patch from Community Publisher and MB resident Liz Spear.

Bruce's Beach has become a place where people gather to honor the history of Blacks and to acknowledge racism in all its forms. Manhattan Beach, as with our nation, is going through a time of great division and calls for social justice.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — It's just another Monday in Manhattan Beach, or is it?! Here's a look at what's brewing this week around town.

  • Many students in Manhattan Beach head back to school Wednesday to begin the new academic 2020-2021 year. But you won't see them walking, riding bikes, being dropped off or driving cars to school campuses due to COVID-19 restrictions for Los Angeles County.
  • Vandalism, hacks, thefts, racism. It's not a happy Monday and it wasn't a happy weekend for residents and community members who experienced any of these acts. Stay tuned to Manhattan Beach Patch this week for stories and updates.
  • The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce is holding a free members-only Zoom today from 12 noon-1 p.m. on its new Inclusion Committee, created "in response to the national events and need to focus on inclusivity in the business community," according to the chamber website. The Zoom will include information on the Inclusion Committee, its core objectives, and goals.
  • A project update for Polliwog Park is on today's agenda of the City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Commission meeting set for 4-7 p.m. via Zoom. The meeting is full of recaps and updates on City Council, the Parks and Rec Department, Parks Master Plan, Older Adult Program, school district and students.
  • Get ready to see Manhattan Beach light up this week through Election Day, Nov. 3rd!
  • Catch me on the radio show "Powell to the People" today from 1-2 p.m. The show is broadcast every Monday from 1-2 p.m. Last Monday, show host and Manhattan Beach resident Wayne Powell aired his 250th live show. Powell, who served on the Manhattan Beach City Council for two 4-year terms and was mayor two times as well, interviews all sorts of people. Tune in today to hear more about Manhattan Beach Patch! Powell to the People episodes are cataloged and available online so you can listen to a show again or listen to a show you've missed. I had the pleasure of being on "Powell to the People" earlier this month on Monday, August 3, and lots has been going on in Manhattan Beach in the interim. Listen today to earn more.
