Manhattan Beach Starts Phase 2 of Strand Stairs Rehabilitation Project

In phase 2, staircases at 18 more locations will either be repaired or replaced.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA -- Manhattan Beach has completed the first phase of repairing and replacing the staircases that lead from The Strand to the Beach, the city announced this week. The city will now start on phase 2 of the project.

Work has been completed on staircases at 10th, 17th, 19th, 23rd, 29th, 30th, 38th and 42nd streets, the city said. In phase 2, staircases at 18 locations will either be repaired or replaced. Work is expected to be completed by March.

Stairs that are to be replaced may be shut down for several weeks, the city said. After the new concrete stairs have been poured, measurements have to be taken for the new handrails. After measurements have been taken, the stairs will remain closed for approximately three weeks while the handrails are being fabricated, according to the city.
