MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Manhattan Beach local and restaurant owner David Slay is opening a new Italian restaurant in the city.

Slay, who took over Darren's and built Slay Steak + Fish House in February, is set to open Slay Italian Kitchen next month. The restaurant will be in the spot previously occupied by Jimmy's Kouzina, which recently closed after 35 years.

The restaurant will be another family affair for Slay, whose wife Gale and son David Slay Jr. will be partners in the restaurant.

"We are very excited to bring our brand of fresh, authentic, and innovative Italian cuisine to Manhattan Beach," David Slay said. "This area is our home, and we want to create yet another venue where people can feel welcomed as they enjoy fantastic food."

Slay recruited veteran chef Don Dickman to develop the menu, Eater LA reported.

The late Jonathan Gold described Dickman’s style as "hearty, masculine cooking," and Slay told Eater LA they’ll emphasize a rotating menu with fresh and dried pastas, meats, vegetables and wines from his own Santa Barbara County farm, Slay Estate and Vineyard.

Slay Italian Kitchen will be at 1001 Manhattan Ave #5429, Manhattan Beach, CA — just a few blocks away from Slay Steak + Fish House.
