Half a Century of 'Good Vibrations,' Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds' Turns 50
To mark the milestone, the South Bay-bred band will release special expanded editions of the record, as well as a range of merchandise.
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Beach Boys' iconic 1966 album, "Pet Sounds," hailed as one of popular music's landmark recordings, turns 50 years old May 16.
To mark the milestone, the Hawthorne-bred Beach Boys and Capitol/UMe records will release special expanded editions of the record, as well as a range of exclusive Pet Sounds merchandise.
The Beach Boys' 11th studio album, "Pet Sounds" has ranked high among critic and fan polls for decades.

The album — featuring such Beach Boys standards as "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows" and "Sloop John B" — was selected second in Rolling Stone magazine's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time."
MOJO magazine had "Pet Sounds" at the top of its greatest albums list.

The album was voted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of one of popular music's most iconic singles of all time, The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations," which also will be released this fall with a global commemorative release.
