MANHATTAN BEACH, CA -- Manhattan Beach Police Department is crediting an alert citizen for the arrest of a suspected residential burglar Wednesday.

Around 8:15 a.m., an alert resident called police to report a suspicious person in the 1,500 block of Fifth Street, police said. When officers arrived, they spotted a woman in the area and when they tried to detain her to investigate a possible residential burglary, she attempted to flee, the MBPD said.

"When the officers attempted to detain her again, she began to fight with the officers," the department said in a statement.
