Trick-Or-Treat? Manhattan Beach City Officials Recommend Options
City agrees with Los Angeles County and recommends Halloween be celebrated in ways other than trick-or-treating or "trunk and treating".

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The City of Manhattan Beach announced today it does not recommend door-to-door trick-or-treating or "trunk or treating" for Halloween 2020, saying it is following the guidance of Los Angeles County. Both entities agree that trick-or-treating and trunk or treating "do not minimize contact with non-household members," making it "very difficult to maintain proper physical distancing and minimize disease spread."
The City does recommend considering the following substitutions to replace traditional Halloween activities:
- Online parties/contests (e.g., costume or pumpkin carving);
- Car parades, such as drive-by events or contests;
- Halloween movie nights at drive-in theaters;
- Halloween-themed meals at outdoor restaurants;
- Halloween-themed art installations at outdoor museums; and
- Dressing up homes and yards with Halloween themed decorations.
The city asks the Manhattan Beach community to remember the following protocols for Halloween and other upcoming holidays:
