Body Found off Redondo Beach

A man's body is discovered about five miles off the coast of Redondo Beach.

A man's body was recovered from the ocean about five miles off the coast of Redondo Beach on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The U.S. Coast Guard found the body after a report about 1:30 p.m. of a boat without anyone at the helm, according to Sgt. Brent Carlson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Marina Del Rey Station.

At about 11:15 a.m., the victim rented a boat from Fisherman Village in Marina Del Rey and planned to go fishing, Carlson said.

The victim's body was found floating not far from the rented boat, Carlson said.

An investigation is underway, but the victim's family told authorities that he had a dexterity condition that made him unable to swim, Carlson said.
