Earthquake Hits Marina del Rey, Beach Region: USGS

MARINA DEL REY, CA — A 2.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Marina del Rey at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, the United States Geological Service confirmed. The earthquake occurred just seconds before California transitioned to the month of April.

The earthquake was centered 3.1 kilometers, or 1.9 miles, west southwest of Marina Del Rey, and 2.4 miles northeast of Culver City. Its depth is 8.8 km, according to the USGS.

  • 3.8 km (2.4 mi) NE of Culver City
  • 4.8 km (3 mi) E of Baldwin Hills
  • 6.8 km (4.2 mi) WNW of Santa Monica
  • 6.8 km (4.2 mi) N of Westwood

Residents around Marina del Rey, Culver City, Santa Monica, Inglewood, and the coastal areas just north of LAX told the USGS in a survey that they felt the quake very lightly, or not at all.
