Man Killed by Out-of-Control SUV at Marina del Rey Boat Launch Ramp

The man was working on a trailer when the driver of the SUV accidentally backed into him, police said.

MARINA DEL REY, CA - An out-of-control SUV in reverse slammed into a man working on a trailer at the Marina del Rey boat launch ramp, killing him, the CHP reported today.

The 40-year-old man was killed at 4:55 p.m. Saturday on the boat ramp off Mindanao Way at Fiji Way.

A 64-year-old man was backing up a 1999 Ford Expedition at the ramp when he accelerated into a 40-year-old man, who had been standing near a trailer. The SUV continued going backwards and struck a Hyundai Genesis and a Dodge Charger.

The 40-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:07 p.m. Saturday.

The driver of the SUV, a Los Angeles resident, was not arrested.

The name of the 40-year-old man will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the coroner's office.
