Nearly 700 DUI Arrests Made Over July 4 Weekend in L.A. County

Police agencies across Los Angeles net hundreds of arrests over a four-day period.

Nearly 700 people were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs this holiday weekend in Los Angeles County, according to preliminary figures released Monday.

Officials from the Avoid the 100 Los Angeles County DUI Campaign reported that between 12:01 a.m. Thursday and midnight Sunday, 685 people were arrested on suspicion of DUI offenses. The figures are provisional, and could change.

Avoid programs are named for the numbers of law enforcement agencies in each county. Law enforcement officers will conduct other Avoid campaigns this summer, ending with the Labor Day weekend.

Funding for the program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
