Philippine President Benigno Aquino to Receive Honorary Degree from LMU
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Rep. Judy Chu are among those scheduled to be in attendance.

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Loyola Marymount University next week.
The 15th president of the Republic of the Philippines “is being honored in recognition of his dedication to his country, his integrity and his embodiment of a Jesuit education,” according to LMU.
The invitation-only ceremony will be held Feb. 17 at noon in the Life Sciences Building Auditorium. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Rep. Judy Chu are among those scheduled to be in attendance.

Garcetti will also deliver an address at the event, which is co-sponsored by the School of Education’s Teach for the Philippines Program and the World Policy Institute at LMU.
Elected in 2010 to a six-year term, Aquino, a fourth-generation politician, is the only son of Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. and President Corazon Aquino.

Founded in 1911, LMU is a private Catholic university with more than 6,000 undergraduate students and over 3,000 graduate and law students.
