Playa Del Rey Marijuana Shop Survives Prop D Closings
The Playa del Rey marijuana dispensary is one of 135 weed shops allowed to remain open by the City of Los Angeles.

A Playa del Rey marijuana dispensary was listed as one of the few weed shops in Los Angeles that will be permitted to remain open by the city following the voter approved Proposition D.
The Beach Enlightenment and Compassionate Healing Center, located on Culver Boulevard, was one of 135 pot shops included on the list released by the Los Angeles city attorney's office.
Proposition D, passed by voters in May, calls for a drastic reduction in the amount of medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles and allows only 135 dispensaries to remain open.
Those 135 selected dispensaries, including the shop in Playa del Rey, have been permitted to remain open because they registered with the city prior to ordinances passed by the City Council in 2007.
In addition, a spokesperson for the city attorney's office told KPCC that to make the list of 135, those businesses also had to be registered with the city in 2011 and under Measure M, which began taxing the sale of marijuana.
While the Beach Enlightenment and Compassionate Healing Center can remain open, Proposition D could potentially close down up to 1,000 marijuana dispensaries in Los Angles, the Daily News reported.
