Sunny Skies, Small Craft Meeting and Follow Us

Police also are asking for the public's help to find who was responsible for shooting to death Michael John Baldwin last week in Del Rey.

Today is Feb. 9. It is the 40th day of the year. We are under a waxing crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 5:33 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for sunny skies with a high near 72 degrees with wind gusts as high as 20 mph. It should be clear tonight with an overnight low around 46 degres. A wind advisory also remains in effect until 3 p.m. with winds of 35 mph or greater expected. Forecasters said the winds will weaken this afternoon but strengthen again overnight.

2. The Small Craft Harbor Commission meets today at 10 a.m. at the Burton Chace Park Community Room. We'll have a story later today.

3. Michael John Baldwin was shot to death last Friday in a stolen Lexus in Del Rey.  Police have no suspects in the case. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Pacific Area Homicide Detectives at (310) 482-6372. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247).  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477). Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.”  Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.

4. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson is getting the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers ready for Thursday's game against Boston. The Los Angeles Times reports that Jackson is showing the team a two-hour edited video of the team's Jan. 30 blowout out loss to the Celtics at the Staples Center. The Lakers face Boston on Thursday night at TD Garden, their first visit there since playing last June against the Celtics in the NBA Finals.
