Woman Charged In Slaying Of Man Found In Joshua Tree

MARINA DEL REY, CA — A 44-year-old Marina del Rey woman is set to be arraigned Tuesday on a murder charge in connection with the killing of a 72-year-old man whose burned body was discovered nearly two weeks ago in a dry lake bed in Joshua Tree.

Haena Kealia Worthing is charged along with Shavonne Webster, 40, of Winchester, Indiana, and John Schiefer, 38, of Nipomo, in the Aug. 15 slaying of William Webb. The Marina del Rey resident's body was found the next morning near Sunway Road and Rosehedge Avenue in the Joshua Tree area.

Worthing, who was arrested Monday by Los Angeles police, was identified by ABC7 as the victim's stepdaughter.

The criminal complaint alleges that Webster and Schiefer used a hammer as a dangerous and deadly weapon. The two were arrested by Los Angeles police Aug. 21 and are set to be arraigned Sept. 9.

If convicted as charged, Worthing could face up to 25 years to life in state prison, while Webster and Schiefer could face a maximum of 26 years to life in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
