Alhambra Boosters/Martinez Education Foundation Join Forces For The First Time

A golf tournament at Pine Meadows on May 12 is the first joint fundraiser for the two groups.

There is a little known law on the books that requires my immediate arrest and swift conviction if I am so much as seen within several hundred yards of a golf course. This law arises out of the two (or was it three) extremely unfortunate times when I somehow thought it would be a good idea to don plaid and alpaca and hit the greens.

Fortunately, none of my attempts at driving or putting resulted in serious injury, either to myself or others. But it was enough of a concern to result in the above-mentioned prohibition of my person from any green with a small hole and a flag on it.

I am not, in other words, any kind of a golfer. But every single person in Martinez, with the exception of myself, is invited to the following event:

A bit of history is being made on May 12 when the Martinez Education Foundation and the Alhambra Boosters Club join forces for the very first time with a day of golf and an evening of dinner.

The event is open to everyone of all skill levels, and will take place at the Pine Meadows Golf Course. It is being jointly sponsored by Les Schwab Tires and Edward Jones Investment. After the game, there will be a tri-tip dinner.

β€œIt’s going to be a fun event,” said John Fuller of Edward Jones. β€œIt’s not really aimed at the die-hard golfer. The whole thing is to come out and have fun and support two great organizations in Martinez. It’s the first time these two groups have done a joint event, so it’s a worthy cause, and it’s going to be a great time for everyone who comes out.”

β€œI like the fact that we’re combining the Boosters and the MEF,” said Dwayne Glemsmer, manager of Les Schwab. β€œIt just seemed like a natural fit for the two organizations to be involved in an event. Everything about it is all about Martinez. We already try to support the school with our annual car show. This is just another avenue to try and help out the kids here in Martinez.”

The MEF/Alhambra Boosters Club Golf Tournament is on May 12, and sign-ups are now being accepted. The fee is $60 per golfer, or $200 for a group of four. There is a charge of $25 if you want to attend the dinner only.

Send your name, address, email address, phone number and number of golfers, along with a check, to the Martinez Education Foundation, 649 Main St. #125, Martinez, CA 94553. For more information call (925) 335-5111.

The deadline for the $60 entry fee is April 30. After that, the fee is $75.Β
