UPDATE: Big Rig Crash Temporarily Closes Antioch Bridge

The Antioch Bridge was temporarily closed during the day on Monday due to a big-rig crash, but reopened late in the afternoon, the CHP says.

UPDATE:

The Antioch Bridge is expected to re-open shortly after 4 p.m. today, ahead of the evening commute, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Two semi-trucks crashed on the Sacramento County side of the bridge around 10 a.m., sending one man to a trauma center with burns and life-threatening injuries, said Michael Bradley, a CHP spokesman.

EAST BAY, CA -- The Antioch Bridge was closed Monday morning because of a big-rig crash and there's no estimated time for when it will re-open, the California Highway Patrol said April 24.

Two semi-trucks crashed on the Sacramento County side of the bridge, CHP spokesman Michael Bradley said.

The crash was reported at 10:10 a.m. and a Sig-alert was issued at 10:33 a.m., Bradley said.

One of the drivers was ejected and suffered severe burns and was transported via CHP helicopter to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, he said.

Both vehicles were moved to the right-hand shoulder around 10:45 a.m., according to Bradley.
