Bike to Bridges a Success
More than 500 participants raised upward of $70,000 for the Special Olympics.
More than 500 cyclists gathered at the Regional Shoreline Park on Sunday morning to begin a 25-mile loop— from Martinez, over the Carquinez and Martinez/Benicia bridges and back to Shoreline Park — for the second annual Bike To Bridges event.
The ride is sponsored by police departments from Martinez, El Cerrito, Pinole, Hercules and Oakland. The event last year raised $60,000-plus and had more than 400 participants. This year, there were more than 500 riders, and it is expected to exceed the goal of $70,000.
Patch was on hand to capture a few moments of the opening ceremony.
