CHP Officer Struck On Hwy 242 By Suspected DUI Driver

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Saturday night while conducting a traffic stop on state Highway 242 just south of state Highway 4.

Around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, a female officer with the Contra Costa CHP Office was standing on the right shoulder of SR-242 doing an enforcement stop on a Chevrolet when a Mercedes traveling southbound veered from the roadway and struck the back of the Chevrolet, the CHP said.

The force of the crash caused the Chevrolet to strike the officer who was standing near it, the CHP said.

The officer was taken to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries and later released. She was expected to make a full recovery, the CHP said.

The driver of the Mercedes was not injured but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
