Construction Mishap Near Martinez Leaves 200 Without Gas Service

A gas line break has left hundreds without gas service near Martinez on Wednesday.

About 200 PG&E customers were without gas service near Martinez Wednesday afternoon because of a gas line break that occurred earlier in the day, a utility spokeswoman said.

PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said a third-party construction crew working in the area of Blum Road and Imhoff Drive, near Interstate Highway 680, ruptured a 2-inch gas line at about 9:40 a.m.

PG&E crews arrived and stopped the flow of gas by about noon, Sarkissian said.

She said she was not aware of any evacuations. Sarkissian said PG&E had to disrupt gas service to some homes in order to make repairs, but that service should be restored to the 200 affected customers later Wednesday afternoon.

"We're sending out approximately 20 gas service representatives that will be going through the neighborhood once we're ready to relight," Sarkissian said.

"We apologize for this inconvenience, we worked as quickly as we could to get that gas stopped, and we have to take safety into consideration," she said.
