Updated: Crash Near Martinez School Kills One

One person died in a collision near a Martinez elementary school early Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 3:00PM-

A motorist who died after crashing into a pickup truck near Martinez early this morning was identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 27-year-old Tandiwe Myambo.

The Martinez woman was involved in a collision that occurred just before 5:30 a.m. on Pacheco Boulevard near Las Juntas Elementary School in the unincorporated community of Vine Hill, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Myambo was driving a Honda Civic that was traveling east on Pacheco Boulevard near Camino Del Sol when her vehicle veered into the opposing lane for a reason yet to be determined, CHP officials said.

The Honda, which did not have its headlights on, then collided with a Dodge Dakota pickup truck that was traveling west on Pacheco Boulevard, according to the CHP.

Myambo was found unresponsive following the crash. CHP officials said she was taken to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The 58-year-old Martinez man driving the truck was examined at the scene by paramedics, according to the CHP.

He complained of pain to his right side but apparently did not suffer any injuries.

The collision is still under investigation.

MARTINEZ - One person died in a collision near a Martinez elementary school early this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP received a report at about 5:30 a.m. that a sedan and a pickup truck crashed at Pacheco Boulevard and Arthur Road, located near Las Juntas Elementary School.

One person involved in the crash was reported as unresponsive. The CHP has now classified the incident as a fatality.

CHP Officer John Fransen said the crash is still being investigated and he was not immediately able to provide more information.
