'We Started Running': Brazen Jewelry Store Smash-And-Grab Robbery In Concord Terrifies Shoppers

Shoppers inside the mall during a jewelry store robbery said it was 'truly sad and terrible.'

CONCORD, CA — Police are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery inside a Sunvalley Mall jewelry store, sending shoppers running through stores to safety.

The robbery happened Sunday just before noon.

Suspects used hammers to break display cases before fleeing to a vehicle waiting for them. They were already gone when police arrived.

Witnesses reported hearing gunfire, but police said no shots were fired. They reported no injuries, or ongoing threat to the public.

A shopper posted on Facebook that she and her husband, "heard something loud and people started running, we started running until we exited through JC Penny and ran towards Safeway. People were scared thinking there was an active shooter. This is truly sad and terrible."

Another shopper said on Facebook that the experience was truly scary. "Ppl running into the store yelling someone is shooting."
