Holiday Ice Rink Opens at San Francisco's Union Square

Now in its seventh season, the rink is a chance to jump into some ice skates.

It's the most wonderful time of the year if you love ice skating in San Francisco's Union Square, as the holiday ice rink there opened there Wednesday.

The Safeway Holiday Ice Rink, presented by Alaska Airlines, hosted a season commencement this morning featuring performances by skaters from the San Francisco Tremors ensemble based out of the Yerba Buena Ice Skating Center, organizers said.

Now in its seventh season, the ice rink will operate through Jan. 20.

The rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $11 for regular admission and $7 for children ages 8 and under. Figure- or hockey skate rentals are $5.

A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.
