Martinez Kids Do Great Things
Trevor Davis, Morgan Roth, the Lacrosse team home opener, and more.

Today is TUESDAY, March 22, 2011. Just a reminder that we have a contest under way called Marketing Martinez. We're asking you to come up with a logo, slogan or other marketing materials that you feel would portray our fair city's image in a positive way to the outside world. The best entry will receive a $50 gift certificate to a local eatery. Send your entry to jim.caroompas@patch.com.
- You remember , the Alhambra Bulldogs football player who signed earlier this year with the University of Hawaii. His track coach, Eric Brown, wrote to let us know that Trevor participated in the Arroyo Track and Field Invitational last weekend, at which he ran the 100 meters in 11.1 seconds, placing third; he placed second in the long jump at 22 feet 3 inches; and he jumped 46 feet in the triple jump, placing first overall. Way to go, Trevor.
- And we wish a hearty bon voyage as she heads to the Ukraine for her stint with the Peace Corps. This is a young woman who already has volunteered in Uganda. Quite the world traveler, doing it to help others. Thanks, Morgan.
- A reminder that this evening the Planning Commission will be asked to certify the final environmental study for the project, and to give it a green light. Twenty-two letters were received by the city about the project, fewer than anyone expected. City leaders are bracing for a huge fight over this project — tonight may be an indication of what they're in for. On the other hand, the cannabis ordinance didn't look at all controversial until it got to the City Council.
- A far less controversial meeting happens today at 4 p.m. as the parks subcommittee of the Park, Recreation, Marina and Cultural Commission meets to discuss Hidden Valley Park improvements. That meeting is scheduled to be in the City Hall Board Room, second floor, 525 Henrietta St.
- Tonight at 7 p.m. the Bulldogs lacrosse team season opener is against the Las Lomas Knights; the boys are at home, the girls are at Las Lomas. Go out and show your lacrosse team some Martinez love.
