Martinez Refinery Flaring Set Off By Equipment Problems, Officials Say
An equipment problem at a refinery in Martinez triggered a flare Friday night, refinery officials said over the weekend.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- An equipment problem at a refinery in Martinez triggered a flare Friday night, refinery officials said over the weekend.
The equipment problem started at about 10:20 p.m. April 21 at the Shell refinery at 3485 Pacheco Blvd.
The issue triggered a flare, which burns off excess gas for safety reasons. Shell officials said Saturday that although the flaring lasted about 50 minutes, the public was not in any danger. Shell officials refused to say what business unit had the equipment issue due to what it says are business and competitive reasons.
