People of the Year Nominations Being Sought

Martinez Chamber of Commerce seeking the best, brightest men and women to acknowledge.

The Martinez Chamber of Commerce wants you, if you are 1) worthy of being a person of the year, or 2) know someone who is. Nominations for various persons of the year are now being accepted by the chamber. The winners will be awarded at the Citizen of the Year Awards Banquet on April 30.

The categories are:

  • Man of the Year
  • Woman of the Year
  • Young Man of the Year
  • Young Woman of the Year
  • Citizens Without Borders (those who contribute to Martinez, but don't live in town)
  • Educator of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement

"We do this to honor those selfless individuals who work so hard throughout the year and often go unrecognized," said Cynthia Murdough, executive director of the chamber. She said the awards have been handed out since 1973.

On April 30, the winners will be awarded at the dinner, to be held at the Events Center on Main Street. Murdough said that last year's dinner was sold out, and urged people to get their tickets early.

"This is a wonderfully elegant evening that honors those who give so much of their time and passion to our city," she said. "It's an evening of pride and admiration for our unsung heroes.

Tickets to the event are $55 which includes a fabulous dinner and no-host bar. They are available through the chamber.
