Pick Up Registration Packets Now For Kindergarten And Transitional Kindergarten

Kindergarten Registration and Transitional Kindergarten Registration for the 2012 – 2013 school year is only 4 weeks away. Be sure to visit your attendance area elementary school and pick up a registration packet as soon as possible. Any child who will be 5 years old on or before November 1, 2011 is eligible to enroll. Kindergarten registration is a very important event for families, students, and the Martinez Unified School District. Each year the Martinez Unified School District uses Kindergarten registration enrollments as a key source of information to make decisions about staffing, programs, and other budget allocations. Registering your child(ren) for Kindergarten allows your school to provide you with updated information, schedules, and events over the remainder of the current school year and summer.

The Kindergarten Readiness Act passed by the state legislature (Senate Bill 1381) amended California Education Code to change the required birthday for admission to kindergarten and first grade and established a transitional kindergarten program beginning in the 2012-2013 school year.

A child must have his or her fifth birthday on or before November 1st in order to enroll in Kindergarten. The date will continue to move back as part of SB 1381 in the coming years.

For the 2012–13 school year the date is November 1 For the 2013–14 school year the date is October 1 For the 2014–15 school year and each school year thereafter the date is September 1.

Transitional kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. A child is eligible for transitional kindergarten if his or her fifth birthday is between:

For the 2012–13 school year November 2 and December 2;
For the 2013–14 school year October 2 and December 2;
For the 2014–15 school year and each school year thereafter September 2 and December 2.

Each student will need to submit registration information through the Martinez Unified School District online registration system. In addition, each family will need to register at the location listed below on the day of registration. The purpose of both methods is to ensure accurate data collection, streamline the process on the day of registration, and maintain the ability to visually inspect some documents which cannot be submitted through electronic format.
