MARTINEZ, CA — Howe Road was recently resurfaced in Martinez using California recycled tires.

"The City of Martinez is proud to say that the resurfacing was very environmentally friendly, utilizing Cold In-place Recycling, or CIR, to grind up the existing asphalt and place it back down, freshly compacted," city officials said.

"The CIR layer was then topped with rubberized asphalt made from California recycled tires," the city said. "Now that’s 'where the rubber meets the road!'"
