Schools Observe Shelter In Place Drills Today
Schools in Martinez and throughout the county will practice emergency drills today.

Today, schools in Martinez and throughout Contra Costa County will take part in a shelter-in-place drill.
The county's Community Awareness Emergency Response Group directs the yearly countywide exercise.
The drill is designed to give students and teachers a chance to practice their response to the Community Warning System.
These emergency alerts are sent via siren, TV, radio, text and posts on social media sites.
Schools receive the alerts during hazardous materials emergencies, from accidents at chemical plants to crashes between vehicles carrying chemical substances.
