Teacher Job Fair Planned For Martinez Area Schools

A job fair later this month will give teachers a one-stop opportunity to talk to multiple districts in Contra Costa County.

MARTINEZ, CA — The pandemic has taken a toll on the teaching profession with distance learning, mask requirements, vaccine mandates and COVID testing. Finding enough regular and substitute teachers has put a strain on Martinez schools and districts throughout the Bay Area.

In response, the Contra Costa County Office of Education has scheduled a county-wide Certificated Job Fair on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Representatives from 20 school districts and charter schools will be in attendance, as well as four universities to discuss credential programs and options for current classified and certificated staff to further their education.

Job openings include full-time teaching positions, certificated support staff, substitute teachers and higher education openings. Interviews by some districts will be conducted at the Job Fair.

“If you are interested in working in education and have a passion for working with students, this is a great event to discover opportunities in the county,” Lynn Mackey, Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools, said. “We are facing teacher and substitute teacher shortages throughout the state, and our schools and students are in need of qualified educators in the classrooms. This is a good time for those thinking about joining the field or looking to get back in to get into teaching.”
