Beloved Berkeley Business To Close After Nearly 50 Years: Report

The store is holding a sale until Jan. 31, its closing date, according to a report by Berkeleyside.

BERKELEY, CA — A beloved Berkeley institution is closing after nearly 50 years in business, according to a report from Berkeleyside.

Berkeley Hat Company was founded in 1976 and has been a staple of Telegraph Avenue in the city since 1980, according to the report. One worker described the store to Berkeleyside as "a portal to the past."

Berkeley Hat Company claims to have "the largest selection of hats for men and women in the Bay Area," according to its website.

The store sold every hat imaginable, from Kentucky Derby hats to French berets and hooded scarves.

The store is currently holding a sale until Jan. 31, when it'll close its doors for good. The shop's owner plans to throw a party on the sidewalk in front of the business before closing up for good, according to the report.
