Teachers Picket Outside Martinez Schools
The union says teachers' salaries in the district are the lowest in the county, which causes high turnover and many vacancies.
MARTINEZ, CA — Teachers in Martinez picketed outside schools Friday morning.
The local teachers' union, Martinez Education Association, is in the midst of negotiations with the Martinez Unified School District over teacher salaries and Covid-19 safety plans.
The union says teachers' salaries in the district are the lowest in the county, which causes high turnover and many vacancies.

"It is unacceptable for our district to ignore its revolving doors. Students need constant attention from their educators, and rather than MUSD investing in student success, they would rather let quality educators leave for other districts," said MEA President Brenda Leal in a press release.
"Educators go above and beyond for their students, and it is time for MUSD management to recognize, value, respect, and compensate MEA members for their sacrifices," Leal said.
