What Is This Thing Called Patch?

A few thoughts on what Martinez Patch is, and is not.

Martinez Patch is not, as some have described it, a blog. We have blogs on our site – many excellent ones, in fact – but the Patch in and of itself is not a blog.

Nor is it a news site, entirely. We have news every day, much of it original, some from other sources. Our goal is to be the place you turn for news and information about Martinez. But Martinez Patch not just a news site.

We also feature a directory of local businesses, which was created from scratch, and which we do our best to keep current. We have announcements and an events calendar. We encourage you to post your announcements and events directly into our site.

Martinez Patch is a community site. We want to encourage conversation and interaction. We believe that is the future of online communication and information, that there is no longer a ‘reader,’ but now a ‘user.’

We want you to use this site as the place to find garage sales, inexpensive gas, shops and sales, things to do in and around town, read and comment on the latest news and information about Martinez.

We like to think of this site as a large, ongoing dinner party. We want you to come in and enjoy yourself, have a look around, get comfortable and make yourself at home. Feel free to chime in and make yourself heard. Just be polite and considerate of everyone else. Post photos and videos, write a letter to the editor, comment on a story.

If you have ideas on how to make the site better, please drop me a line at jim.caroompas@patch.com. If you want to purchase an ad, please email our ad manager Aric Martinez at aric.martinez@patch.com.

We want Martinez Patch to be the place you come for news, information and conversation about our city. There is a lot going on in this town of 36,000, and we hope you turn to Martinez Patch to find out what’s up, and to let our users know what’s up with you.
