2 Menlo Park Council Members Running for County Supervisor

County Candidate Roster shows 5 gunning for District 4 seat.

Two Menlo Park government officials announced they are running for the District 4 seat on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors that will be vacated when ’s term concludes.

Menlo Park Mayor Kirsten Keith and Council Member Andy Cohen are both running for the position, which may force them to elevate the dialogue about the issues that are salient in Menlo Park to win votes.

However, the election is an at-large election, which means any voter in San Mateo County can vote for them. used this to his advantage when ran for the District 1 seat earlier last year, campaigning heavily in Redwood City and Menlo Park. The District 1 seat represents the interests of Burlingame. 
 
The District 4 seat represents the interests of Menlo Park, Redwood City and East Palo Alto, which equates to roughly 150,000 people, according to the U.S. Census. 

Cohen announced his candidacy Tuesday, while Keith declared her intention to run on Feb. 6.

The San Mateo County Elections Office released an updated version of the Presidential Primary Election Roster of Candidates that lists five candidates running for the position.

Guillermo “Memo” Morantes, also a Menlo Park resident, has also declared his intention to run for the seat.  Although his name does not appear on that roster, Morantes has been raising funds and is actively campaigning for the position.

The last day to submit documents and a declaration of candidacy is March 9.  The election will be held June 5.  You can find out if you're registered to vote by clicking here
