Police Say Shots Fired At Officers

Recidivists arrested.

Shots were fired at Menlo Park police early Sunday morning by a group of suspects in an incident that sparked a lengthy manhunt.

The shooting occurred after police received a report of a man with a gun around 1:15 a.m. on the 1100 block of Hollyburne Avenue, police spokeswoman Nicole Acker said.

A group of five or six males allegedly fired shots at officers arriving on the scene and then fled the area. One officer returned fire, and no police were injured, Acker said.

Two people were detained at the scene, and police found one gun. A major search of the area involving multiple police agencies was launched, with officers conducting yard to yard searches. Four more suspects were located, along with two handguns and two rifles during the search.

One suspect was treated for minor injuries.

Police have arrested and booked East Palo Alto residents Fredrick Tippons, 31, Luis Mariscal, 26 and Raymond Bradford, 25, on parole violations. As of Sunday afternoon the other three suspects had not yet been arrested, Acker said.
