Highway 280 Reopened After Wildfire Engulfs Brush

Brush fire was out of control.

A brush fire near Menlo Park closed two northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 280 for more than an hour Monday afternoon. Palo Alto Firefighters and the California Highway Patrol responded to a brush fire near Highway 280 and Page Mill Road at approximately 3:13 p.m., CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

Montiel said the cause of the grass fire, which spread uphill rapidly until contained, was not immediately known. The CHP closed the lanes at 3:40 p.m. and reopened them shortly after 5 p.m., Montiel said. Traffic was backed up for about a mile this afternoon because of the closures, Montiel said.
