Dry Weekend Anticipated After Soggy Thanksgiving Day

If you plan to be one of the millions of Californians traveling this holiday weekend, get your umbrella ready and brace for delays.

According to the National Weather Service, wet weather is expected to hit the Bay Area.

Forecaster Steve Anderson said the region will likely experience a brief respite -- with dry, sunny skies expected over the weekend -- but that the rains will return to interrupt return travel on Monday.

Rain is expected in the North Bay and snow is expected to fall in the Sierras, Anderson said.

On Thanksgiving Day, there will be rainfall in most parts of the Bay Area, he said, with a 90 percent chance of precipitation that day that is expected to drop 0.25 to 0.5 inches of rain. Anderson said the rain on Monday will mainly affect the North Bay.

He also noted that Bay Area residents' travel plans might be affected by inclement weather elsewhere.

"It's looking like there are going to be big delays from Chicago east because of rain and snow," Anderson said.

Travelers taking to the skies are advised to check with their airlines to confirm flight times, and motorists are urged to drive carefully.
